The Takeaway: The DEFEND 360, Tactacam’s newest security camera, features live view, pan/tilt/zoom functionality, and an included lithium battery and solar panel–in short, it might be one of the best trail cameras ever made.
The DEFEND 360 is Tactacam’s newest and most advanced security camera. Built to go where other security cameras can’t and do things other security cameras won’t, it’s packed with features and goes from box to guardian in minutes.
But despite being marketed as a do-it-all security camera for remote and temporary locations, it’s also a solid trail camera, taking on tasks most other trail cameras wouldn’t even dream of.
How DEFEND 360 Works
DEFEND 360 is a wireless security camera that operates on 4G cellular networks. Just like a REVEAL trail camera, the DEFEND has a built-in eSIM that automatically connects to the strongest cell signal available, then sends motion-activated imagery to your phone.
The DEFEND 360:
-
Has 8GB of internal memory and 60-day cloud storage
-
Takes 4K images and 1080p video, with a 75-foot detection range and low-glow flash
-
Has an included rechargeable lithium battery and attached solar panel
-
Operates on 4G cellular networks–no Wi-Fi needed
-
Is weatherproof and rugged, built to survive heat, dust, ice, rain, and cold
-
Sets up in minutes–no special tools or skills needed
What really sets DEFEND 360 apart is its functionality. The camera has full 360-degree pan, tilt, and zoom, meaning that from your DEFEND App you can gain a full field of view of your subject no matter where it is or goes. Plus, with live view, you can turn your camera on at any time to see what’s happening at your site.
DEFEND 360 Now Works in Your REVEAL App
While DEFEND has its own app, the camera can also be operated through your REVEAL App. This opens a new world of simple operability, and lets you seamlessly deploy your DEFEND from job site and remote cabin to hunting area.
Once in the REVEAL App, you can activate pan, tilt, and zoom, and open the live video feature.
Where to Mount DEFEND 360 for Hunting
To get the most out of using your DEFEND 360 4G security camera as a hunting trail cam, placement is everything–and mounting it will come with different considerations than when mounting a REVEAL trail camera. Because the camera offers a full panoramic view, you should mount it in a central location instead of along the perimeter of your target area.
-
Position the camera in the middle of a clearing or at the intersection of game trails. This allows the camera to record activity no matter where the animals approach from.
-
Because the camera can tilt vertically, it can be mounted slightly higher than a traditional trail camera–aim for 6-7 feet off the ground. This keeps it out of the deer’s line of sight and prevents spooking.
-
As with fixed trail cams, try to mount it so the lens will primarily face north. This prevents white-out images caused by the rising or setting sun catching the glass.
Why DEFEND 360 Works Well for Specific Hunting Situations
DEFEND 360 does something no traditional deer cam can do–it offers 360 degrees of stealth visibility. This means it can eliminate blind spots, making it indispensable for monitoring wide-open food plots or trail intersections.
-
Bucks sometimes circle a perimeter before entering–something a fixed camera would miss.
-
360-degree versatility means one camera can cover the same ground as a handful of traditional cameras.
-
In rutting season, deer movement is erratic and fast. The panorama capability means that even action happening at odd angles remains in frame.
